Beebo Attempts Magic
Beebo, the wizard apprentice, is slacking off and not studying as he should. With an exam approaching, he's looking for alternative ways to pass. He skims through an old book and learns about a powerful artifact! He sets off immediately without doing further research — his combat skills severely lacking. It’s as if he’s rolling dice to power his attacks...
A 2022 GMTK Jam game made in 48 hours with 100% original art, music, and code, designed to fit the theme “roll the dice.” It features a simple yet elegant turn-based combat system with visible enemy intentions and a charming NES color palette.
You play as Beebo, encountering monsters while searching for this dubious artifact. Instead of choosing actions, you roll dice to determine the power of your attacks and defenses. Occasionally, Beebo will perform an elemental attack — but he has no control over that. As you progress through the game, your dice become stronger, and you face new enemies, each with their own elemental resistances and weaknesses. Can you beat all the levels and reach the very end?
Since Beebo doesn’t do his research and can’t control his spells, gameplay is esoteric and luck-based. It may take some experimentation to win. For gameplay tips, click here.
